Accounting Policy and Technical Accounting (TA) is the authority Technical Accounting matters including adoption of new accounting standards as well as internal financial accounting standards. TA serves as an oversight entity, helping various functions in aligning business and financial reporting requirements. As such, TA works closely together with business leaders, FP&A leaders, functional areas such as Legal, Tax and Treasury, Consolidations/Reporting team and Accounting Operations to assist with the delivery of quality internal and external financial reporting. The Manager, Accounting Policy and Technical Accounting is a part of this team and will report to the Director, External Reporting and Technical Accounting.
This role demands strong technical accounting background, a high-level of financial and analytical skills across multiple areas of responsibility, including all GAAP matters and excellent communication skills. Experience with a wide variety technical accounting matters as well as SEC and related regulatory filings and other compliance procedures is also critical to the role.
This position will lead the adoption of the new leasing accounting standard as well as other upcoming standards requiring adoption. The position will also ensure compliance across the company and have key responsibilities for certain global technical accounting matters including the lead on developing and maintaining internal financial accounting policies. The role will be responsible for managing the annual goodwill and indefinite intangible impairment testing in accordance with ASC 350. The position is also responsible for managing the timely and effective research and implementation of any changes in both accounting and disclosure arising from pronouncements of various rule making bodies, including the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the SEC.
This position requires very strong personnel management skills, versatility, technical accounting, planning, interpersonal and communications skills, as effective interaction with senior management is a critical to success. In addition, this position will be a key interface between the operations, Corporate staff (Tax, Treasury, HR, etc.), Public Relations, Investor Relations as well as Senior Management.
Accounting Policy & Technical Accounting Areas
Assist in managing the Company’s initiative to achieve compliance with the FASB’s leasing standard to be adopted by January 1, 2019.
Manage the annual impairment testing process, including working closely with third-party valuation specialists on inputs to the valuation model and the FP&A group on forecasts utilized.
Prepare technical accounting memos for internal files as well as for external audit
Monitor industry/regulatory changes with accounting pronouncements and help develop new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly.
Assist in the effort to provide guidance/training with groups outside of corporate accounting, including Legal, Sales and Finance on financial standards, as well as the regions and shared service centers
Actively participate and drive implementation of new or improved analytical models, e.g. KPIs to monitor and evaluate accounting as well as monitoring process controls
Ensure SOX compliance for purchase accounting, impairment testing, leases and certain other technical accounting processes.
Evaluate and standardize accounting policy environment across newly acquired entities.
Follow upcoming U.S. GAAP projects and proposals and evaluate potential impact on the organization. Independently develop or work with industry participants and industry groups to develop comment letters on proposed guidance, where appropriate.
Research new U.S. GAAP standards and develop and document Company policies and elections.
Scope the impact of new U.S. GAAP standards on the entire organization, including relevant historical transactions and investment structures.
Document and communicate proposed changes to Company's auditors and obtain both local audit team and National office sign-off of elections where required. Develop corresponding communication & training plan and deploy across organization.
Manage implementation of changes into financial statements and SEC filings where required.
Ensure changes in procedures are integrated into existing financial controls and liaise with Internal Audit and SOX implementation group where required.
Other ad-hoc support across Technical Accounting and Oversight group where required.
Providing insights and assistance on various SEC reporting, corporate consolidations and compliance activities
Ensure the completion and performance of Special Projects as requested.
Ensure finance team members around the globe are adequately trained in various accounting matters.
Maintain objective evidence for Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist on developing corrective actions, when required.

Required Education:

Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
CPA required Qualifications
10 years of experience External & Technical Accounting
5+ years of public accounting experience;
1+ years experience managing others
Mastery of US GAAP financial statement and SEC reporting
Strong technical accounting experience
Working knowledge of SAP a plus
BCS experience a plus
Excellent Excel skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with non-accountants
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
The ability to work in a matrix organization
Demonstrated ability to work under time pressure
